Internet Insider: C-51 backlash grows, Net Neutrality on the move, and TPP talks set to accelerate

Paov,

The backlash against Bill C-51 continued to grow this week. Prominent conservative grassroots activist Connie Fournier - who last week sparked a social media rebellion on the Conservative Party’s Facebook page - published a powerful critique of C-51 in the National Post this week, just in time for Canada Day. Connie reminds all of us that the campaign to repeal C-51 is not a left-right issue, but is instead built on core values that all Canadians hold dear.

Also this week, worrying reports have emerged from Brussels indicating that the European Union may be poised to push through an Internet Slow Lane plan similar to the U.S. plan that millions of us fought successfully to defeat. Meanwhile, Big Telecom’s lackeys in the U.S. Congress are fighting tooth and nail to undermine the customer-friendly Net Neutrality rules we won together. We’ll be keeping a close eye on both these developments in the weeks ahead.

Finally, it looks like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, long ignored by many media outlets, is shaping up to be a key issue in this Fall’s election. Talks on the TPP are set to accelerate after President Obama succeeded in forcing his Fast Track legislation through Congress. The battle for Fast Track may be over - but the battle over the TPP is just beginning, so watch this space.

Already under fire from their own supporters on C-51, the Conservative Party landed in more hot water when they decided to include images and audio from terrorist group ISIS in a partisan attack ad - clearly breaking the law they just passed. This sparked outrage on social media, and this embarrassing interview by a senior Conservative. Speak out to Kill C-51 at https://KillC51.ca
