We have all experienced dramatic change in the past few weeks. This is a time of uncertainty, but as a collective we have risen to the occasion; disrupting business as usual, in order to mitigate this global tragedy.

I feel immense gratitude for those on the frontlines, keeping us fed and supporting our health and mobility - thank you! These heroes have certainly made a lot of us re-assess perspectives and priorities, and have encouraged a lot of us to get informed and get involved. For those of you looking to focus that attention and motivation on sustainable energy in British Columbia, I have the following suggestions:

Get involved:

- Connect with Students - We’re preparing our in-class Cool-It Program for an online audience to accommodate students and teachers while schools are closed. If you’re a sustainable energy professional, who would like to share your career experience with high school students, please connect with us through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We want to empower our youth to be optimistic for their futures.
- Balance the Books - BCSEA is on the hunt for a new Treasurer. If you’re a creative problem solver with an interest in governance and finance, check out the posting here.
- Virtual Volunteering - build your digital skills and help out; support a webinar, improve our website, or connect with a local steering committee for more opportunities. Email us at iThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let us know how you’d like to get involved

Get Informed:

- Check out BCSEA’s Policy Corner for the latest news on government policy and BC Utilities Commission
- Watch our latest webinar on BC Climate Action with the Pembina Institute and FortisBC:

The world feels like its on shaky ground, but I’m confident that we’ll be able to learn from this and harness this momentum to accelerate a sustainable energy future and a low-carbon economy.

Stay healthy and safe, and please reach out and connect (while still maintaining social distancing, of course!)

Sincerely,

Lana

Elementary Program

Prior to Spring break the Cool It! team wrapped up our Cool It! Climate Leadership Training program with elementary classes in Central Saanich, New Westminster, Comox Region, Port Moody, Langley, Victoria. The students did a fantastic job taking action to reduce their carbon footprints through trying out different transportation modes, eating less meat, improving their home efficiency, and reducing their waste.

High School Program

One class from our high school program had the special treat of visiting the Vancouver LUSH factory to learn about their efforts in sustainable manufacturing, supply chains, and ethical business. These students went on to develop their own community projects ideas with inspiration from their factory tour.
