A Message from the Vice-Chair We have all experienced dramatic change in the past few weeks. This is a time of uncertainty, but as a collective we have risen to the occasion; disrupting business as usual, in order to mitigate this global tragedy.
I feel immense gratitude for those on the frontlines, keeping us fed and supporting our health and mobility - thank you! These heroes have certainly made a lot of us re-assess perspectives and priorities, and have encouraged a lot of us to get informed and get involved. For those of you looking to focus that attention and motivation on sustainable energy in British Columbia, I have the following suggestions:
Get involved:
- Connect with Students - We’re preparing our in-class Cool-It Program for an online audience to accommodate students and teachers while schools are closed. - Balance the Books - BCSEA is on the hunt for a new Treasurer. If you’re a creative problem solver with an interest in governance and finance, check out the posting here.
- Virtual Volunteering - build your

2020 Victoria Home Garden and Green Living Expo COVID-19
The Victoria Chapter leadership wishes everyone a safe and uneventful passage through the current crisis.
2020 Home, Garden and Green Living Expo
Now postponed due to COVID-19, the VIctoria Chapter has commmitted to have a booth at the 2020 Home, Garden, and Green Living Expo which will take place at the West Shore Recreation Centre in Colwood.
This is Victoria's largest home products and services exhibition, and this year fro the first time, it will focus on Gren Living. Assuming the COVID issue abates, we will be there at our booth to talk about the coming green energy revolution! Our booth will feature electric vehicle chargers, electric bikes and other necessitites for the homes of the future. Our booth partner, City Green, will demonstrate the latest in mini-split ductless heat pumps. They can also tell you all about th enew Better Buildings BC efficiency incentives.
NewCities' "Leading by Example"
In early March members of the Victoria Chapter participated in 2 public events. Tom Hackney and Bruce MacKenzie spoke at the University of Victoria Elder Academy Speakers Series, and the Chapter designed and led an interactive workshop at NewCities’ “Leading by Example” conference held at the Victoria Conference Centre.

Vancouver Chapter Volunteer Onboarding Night Thank you to everyone who came out to our Vancouver Chapter's first volunteer onboarding night of the year! Also, a huge thank you to 7 Gate Ventures for generously allowing us to use their great space. We always enjoy meeting motivated individuals who are keen to help shape the future of sustainable energy in BC. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from our Project Managers and learn how they can become involved in this years community initiatives.

OKANAGAN CHAPTER
City of Vernon's Climate Action Plan Committee and BCSEA Okanagan Engage Sustainable Energy Task Force Meeting
Saturday, April 4, 2020, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Our chapter has been actively training ambassadors in promoting change to 100% renewables, as well as realizing how important awareness and education are in the effectiveness of this movement. Thanks to examples of climate plan initiatives throughout the valley, the path is clear and possible.
The Okanagan Chapter needs your support. Join us in any of these ways:

COOL-IT UPDATE
COVID-19 and the COOL-IT ProgramOn March 17, 2020, the provincial government announced that BC schools will remain closed after Spring break indefinitely. BCSEA and the Cool It! team will keep teachers registered for our Spring Cool It! Climate Leadership Training Program informed about programming moving forward. Elementary Program Prior to Spring break the Cool It! team wrapped up our Cool It! Climate Leadership Training program with elementary classes in Central Saanich, New Westminster, Comox Region, Port Moody, Langley, Victoria. The students did a fantastic job taking action to reduce their carbon footprints through trying out different transportation modes, eating less meat, improving their home efficiency, and reducing their waste.
High School Program One class from our high school program had the special treat of visiting the Vancouver LUSH factory to learn about their efforts in sustainable manufacturing, supply chains, and ethical business. These students went on to develop their own community projects ideas with inspiration from their factory tour.

Comprehensive Review of BC Hydro - Disappointing Phase 2 Interim ReportThe important and ambitious purpose of the review included giving BC Hydro guidance on the critical issue of how it should implement the electrification called for in the 2018 CleanBC climate action plan. Read more
BCSEA Supports Net Metering BCSEA filed its final argument March 12, 2020, opposing BC Hydro’s application to the BC Utilities Commission, to ban customers who propose “oversized generation” from joining the Net Metering program. Read more..
