Ready for better coverage of Canada's most important energy, environment and democracy issues? So are we.

We’ve never asked you for support before, but at this pivotal moment, we need your help to clean up Canada’s energy debate.

We’ve just launched a campaign to raise $50,000 by Oct. 12th. As a regular DeSmog Canada reader, will you consider chipping in today?

Our country is at a crucial moment in its history. We risk becoming divided by energy debates — even though a 2013 Harris-Decima poll indicated the vast majority of Canadians want the same thing: an integrated approach to climate change and energy.

At DeSmog Canada, we believe Canadians deserve more constructive conversations about our country’s future. We’re Canada’s only news source dedicated to cleaning up Canada’s energy debate through thoughtful, independent news and analysis.

But to keep shining a light on issues overlooked by traditional media, we need to raise $50,000 in the next 30 days. Can you give $50, $100 or $200 today?

In a time when newspapers and TV stations are slashing staff, our team of award-winning writers and editors has a mandate to go beyond the headlines to cut through the spin clouding the energy debate on energy.

Case in point, this summer a DeSmog Canada investigation revealed one of our country’s largest news outlets has been running unmarked oil advertorials on its websites. This is exactly why we need independent news sources that don’t rely on corporate advertisers. To keep digging deep into Canada’s energy and climate issues we need your support.

Can you give, $50, $100 or $200 today to support DeSmog Canada’s independent coverage of Canadian energy issues?

We don’t just publish stories on our website — our work has sparked coverage by the Calgary Herald, Vancouver Sun, CBC, Metro News and the Globe and Mail.

With your support, we’ll be able to:

  • Bring you the most in-depth stories on government and industry spending on multi-million dollar ad campaigns selling pipelines and oil development.
  • Shine a spotlight on fake grassroots groups designed to confuse the public debate.
  • Tell the stories of scientists who are being muzzled and bring voice to scientific evidence.

Our job is to put the public interest first. But for public interest journalism to work, we need your support. Please donate what you can today.

Thanks for all you do,

Carol Linnitt on behalf of the DeSmog Canada team

P.S. We only have 30 days to raise $50,000. Please give what you can today to clean up Canada’s energy debate.
