An Evening with Fidel 8pm Friday, March 27Metro Studio, 1411 Quadra at Johnson
Vancouver stage and film actor Tim Perez embodies one of history's most controversial political figures in AN EVENING WITH FIDEL, his original solo play about Cuban leader Fidel Castro, which will be performed at the Metro Studio in Victoria. The one-night-only performance is presented in association with Victoria Friends of Cuba.

Perez gives a bravura performance, recreating scenes from the life of one of the most... complex characters of our times in Castro's own words, gleaned from interviews, speeches and personal recollections, and accompanied by historical footage and images.

“My goal was to be true to what’s real about Fidel. He’s been around for so long, he’s been a thinker, a player, and an enigma,” says Perez. The play’s vignettes follow Castro on his life journey, as his revolutionary fervor mellows into statesmanship. “He’s obviously a contentious character,” Perez acknowledges, “but we have an obligation to be respectful toward his position in the world and his position in the hearts of his countrymen.”

Tim Perez began his professional career in theatre when he graduated from NYU with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts. Recognized immediately for his unique talents, he was cast by Joseph Papp for Shakespeare in the Park in New York. Years of classical and contemporary performances followed at the leading United States theatres across the country. He then spent 10 years in Los Angeles working in film and television. In 2002 he moved to Canada to raise his son with his Canadian wife the Artist/Designer Gail Taylor, and has had a steady career working as an actor, including a recurring role in the TV series Alcatraz.
