Raise your voice for old-growth forests next Tuesday, July 7

Walbran Valley: Ancient monuments...or just another clearcut?

Dear PAOV,

It’s time to stand up for one of Canada’s most incredible forests.

Last month we learned about plans for new clearcut logging in the central Walbran Valley, one of the last intact tracts of old-growth forest on Vancouver Island.

Since then, hundreds of you have written to BC’s Premier and Minister of Forests, asking them to reject these logging permits.

Next week, we’re holding a rally at the Ministry of Forests office to echo this demand!

WHEN:
Tuesday, July 7th at 12:00pm

WHERE:
BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources
780 Blanshard Street
Victoria, BC

Please share the Rally for the Walbran Valley event with your friends and family on Facebook!

Ancient old-growth forests are far more valuable standing than as timber. They provide more habitat for species at risk, more cultural resources for First Nations peoples and more recreational opportunity than younger forests. And, in a time when climate change is a major global crisis, these forests absorb and store far more greenhouse gases than new tree plantations.

Logging company Teal Jones has chosen the route of conflict, but the provincial government has the power to step up and do the right thing for these natural monuments. It’s up to us to pressure them to do so.

Please take action by attending the Rally for the Walbran Valley. And if you haven’t yet, please write a letter to demand that Premier Christy Clark deny permits for old-growth logging in the Walbran Valley.

By standing and raising our voices together, we can protect what’s left of the Walbran Valley’s ancient forest!
