You may have noticed that we’ve been posting infographics since July 21 (International Drug Users Memorial Day). You may not know that this is all a lead-up to a day of action on August 31 (International Overdose Awareness Day).

Our message is that we need the province to act quickly to ensure supervised consumption services are well-funded, appropriately staffed, culturally safe and, most importantly, meaningfully include people who use drugs in the planning and operation of services.

We hear every week about another preventable overdose – and we know SCS are a proven way of preventing overdoses and making sure people have the supports and access to health service needed not just to stay alive, but to live with health and dignity.

Check our infographics out below, check us out on facebook for the next installments, and stay tuned for our August 31st day of action to remember those we have lost to overdose, and to fight for the services to prevent these needless deaths.

ps. please add your support by writing a letter to provincial officials to demand immediate funding and implementation of life-saving supervised consumption services.

yes2scs is a community campaign to ensure SCS are established and operating in Victoria in 2016. Our commitments include:
* facilitating a process to ensure adequate funding, appropriate services and locations, and a service provider who makes certain these services are trauma informed and culturally safe.
* continuing our work on the Federal Exemption process.
* continuing to work with all levels of government and key stakeholders on this goal and timeframe.
* ensuring people who use illicit drugs and organizations of people who use drugs are fully involved in these processes.
* recognizing the limits of SCS to prevent all OD deaths by continuing to respond to the harm caused by the criminalization of people who use drugs.
