Green New Deal: Can the vortex spin any faster?

Is the Political Vortex Spinning Faster and Faster?
February 8, 2019
Ecosocialists and Kindred Spirits,
From my perch on the Left Coast, the political winds appear to be speeding up. We’re nowhere near the dramatic obliteration of political time that takes place as a revolution gets underway, but there is no question that the arrival of a few open socialists in Congress has created a rupture in the political space-time continuum.
More people than ever are singing along with
Tracy Chapman and to hell with swinging the pendulum back to the days when Clinton and Obama were going to stop the seas from rising.
The Green New Deal is a central focus of much of the renewed radical energy. The Climate Crisis may turn out to be the Vietnam War of our era, sparking a huge movement among young people who are unwilling to go gently into a world-class extinction event. The resolution introduced jointly yesterday by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the House and Sen. Edward Markey in the Senate is going to be followed by an intense campaign by the Sunrise Movement to demand endorsement by every senator and member of congress with a deadline of February 26 ... or else.
You can follow the Sunrise Movement’s plans and how they intend to fight for a radical Green New Deal on their Facebook page. They are calling for immediate efforts to barrage elected officials with
tweets and calls and
visits to their offices across the country February 11 through13 to be followed by a nationwide day of action on February 26. The day of action will target recalcitrant politicians with nonviolent direct actions to wake them up to the idea that the rules have changed along with the climate.
You can read more below about today's doings including Nancy Pelosi's put-down of the movement to save ourselves and our planet. Stay tuned as the political vortex whips the masks off politicians who want to pay lip service to climate action but are frightened by young people demanding the real thing!

The urgency of the global climate crisis makes it imperative for any social justice movement to come to grips with, and confront it in some way. There can be no social justice, after all, on a dead planet.
