South Korean workers win huge victory - thanks in part to you
r1
Kim Yong-gyun's death triggered a global campaign. ...
Two weeks ago, I wrote to ask your support for a union-led campaign in South Korea that followed the tragic death of Kim Yong-gyun, a 24 year old subcontracted worker.
I am very pleased to report that after just a few days online, with our campaign appearing in eight languages and getting just under 4,000 supporters, we suspended the campaign at the request of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (KPTU).
We did this because the South Korean government announced a number of measures in response to the public campaign which, while not entirely satisfactory, represented a very real victory for the union and the campaign.
Full details of the story can be found on the KPTU website and on the website of Public Services International (PSI).
The powerful combination of grassroots mobilisation in South Korea and an international campaign led by PSI, using the LabourStart campaigning platform, has produced this great result.
Thank you to everyone who participated. I hope we can count on your support in the future.
