Help us defend refugee rights

Dear friends and supporters,
The federal government is planning to significantly roll back the human rights of refugees by rushing through rights restrictions in omnibus federal Budget Bill C-97.
These restrictions could mean that thousands of refugees may be denied an impartial and independent hearing to decide on their claim, if they previously filed a refugee claim in the United States and in certain other countries.
Under these new restrictions, it wouldn’t matter when a refugee filed their previous claims, the conditions for refugee claimants in those countries, or whether those countries provide the same protections as Canada – these people would no longer get a fair and independent hearing at Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board.
Right now, these amendments are being studied by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. We need your help to call on Parliament and the Standing Committee on Citizenship to reject these rights-violating restrictions.
Take action by emailing your MP.Changes to refugee rights should not be rushed through in an omnibus budget bill. Help us make sure they are stopped.
Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
Josh Paterson
