Paov,

Apple and other Big Tech companies have just swooped into Ontario and killed the province's right to repair bill.

...

Pressure from these companies drove the Conservative government to vote down the law, which would have been the first of its kind in Canada.1

The bill's author now plans to bring the proposal to the federal government. It's our best chance to get national right to repair legislation, but we need to show the government that Canadians want the right to repair their devices without shelling out hundreds to corporations like Apple, Samsung, and Google.

We're raising money to commission a nationwide poll to show Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains that Canadians want the right to repair their own iPhones and other electronics. Will you chip in?

Electronic devices, appliances, and even farm equipment are becoming increasingly hard to repair. If your iPhone breaks, for example, your only option is Apple, which will charge you up to $800 to fix it.2

The result of these steep repair charges is an increase in the digital divide. In addition, forcing consumers to throw out devices that could be easily repaired contributes to huge amounts of often toxic electronic waste.

That's why the right to repair movement is growing across North America and why 20 US states, three US presidential candidates, and the European Union are looking into passing right to repair legislation.

It's popular and common-sense legislation, which is why we are commissioning this poll to show the Canadian government that it is an issue that people care about.

The more information we have about Canada's feelings about Right to Repair, the better our campaign will be. That's where you come in — for every $700 we raise, we get to add an additional question about how people use electronics to the poll. We can defeat Apple and the other Big Tech companies in Canada.

Will you chip in to help fund a nationwide poll to prove that Canadians want the right to repair the products they own?

Thank you for all that you do.
Rodrigo, and the whole team at OpenMedia
