The Amazon Sacred Headwaters spans 74 million acres across three huge river basins in Ecuador and Peru and is one of the most biodiverse terrestrial ecosystems on the planet. It is also home to nearly half a million Indigenous peoples from 20 different nationalities and groups (including peoples living in voluntary isolation).

Instead of protecting this vital area, both Ecuador and Peru aim to pay off their debts and bring in new revenue by expanding oil, mining, large-scale agriculture and industrial development. This will fragment vast areas previously uninterrupted by roads, and be a gateway to expanded deforestation.

Indigenous federations from the region and their allies - including Stand.earth - are calling for permanent protections for Indigenous rights and territories and an end to the expansion of new oil, mining, and other extractive activities. We are seeking global support for this declaration.

Show the profiteers that the Indigenous people of the Amazon Sacred Headwaters are not alone.

Stand is a part of a core group of Indigenous and allied organizations that comprise the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Initiative (ASHI) - an international coalition that aims to advance permanent protections for the rights and territories of indigenous peoples living in this region.

Indigenous federations and nationalities have been and continue to actively defend their ancestral territories from these massive new threats. Worldwide support for their declaration will show entities looking to exploit their land that the Indigenous people of the Sacred Headwaters region are not alone.

The protection of these lands and people is a global imperative that cannot be ignored. Show your solidarity and join with Indigenous leaders as they seek to generate global support for protecting their natural and cultural heritage.

Working in coalition with Indigenous leaders and allies towards the large-scale protection of majestic forested areas like the Amazon Sacred Headwaters is just the work Stand.earth was created to take on.

Protecting forests is in our DNA, back from when we were founded more than 20 years ago as Forest Ethics. Over the years we've been proud to help protect millions of acres from logging in the Great Bear Rainforest, Inland Temperate Rainforest, Northern Boreal forest, and in Chile. Now it's time to defend the Sacred Amazon Headwaters.

Stand with the Indigenous people of the Amazon Sacred Headwaters and pledge your support
