Dear Paov,

More than 25.5 million acres, a landmass the size of South Korea, has burned in the Australian bushfires.¹ And 36,000 people have been displaced by the devastating floods sweeping through Indonesia.2

We’re just a few weeks into the new year it’s clear: the climate crisis is here. It’s bad. And it demands urgent response.

With parliament resuming on Monday, let’s make sure our leaders hear this message loud and clear. Join us to call on every MP in the house to govern for a Green New Deal.

Climate disasters around the world are a reminder that it’s already too late to avoid the full force of the climate emergency. But scientists say we can avoid some of the worst catastrophes by cutting global carbon emissions in half within the next decade.

Canada’s nowhere close to achieving that mark. In the middle of this crisis, Canadian leaders are too busy pushing forward destructive pipelines, like Trans Mountain and Coastal Gas Link, that don’t have the consent of Indigenous Peoples. And they’re receiving proposals for... even dirtier projects like the largest proposed tar sands mine ever proposed -- Teck Frontier.

Acting on the climate crisis means putting these destructive fossil fuel projects in the past and putting a new vision into motion. Tell our MPs to usher in the decade of the Green New Deal.

A Green New Deal is the only plan on the table that can meet the scale and urgency of the climate crisis. It would mean keeping dirty fossil fuels in the ground, action to tackle inequality, and the creation of millions of jobs in a renewable energy economy.

At a time of crisis, we need our politicians to lead with courage. Sign the petition today.

If we can reach over 10,000 signatures before Monday, I will personally deliver your signatures to our leaders in Ottawa when Parliament resumes next week.

Onwards,

Katie

PS -- If built, the Teck Frontier Mine would wreak havoc on the climate and devastate an area twice the size of Vancouver. Our friends at Indigenous Climate Action are leading the fight to stop this destructive project. On Monday, they’re delivering a letter to Environmental Minister Jonathan Wilkinson from people across the country who oppose Teck. Add your name to make sure he hears from as many of us as possible.
