A jolly good scoop

A jolly good scoop r1 ... r33

Back in November we told you that we had just had our best month yet.

We told you that for every story you read on The Narwhal there's a mountain of work going on behind the scenes — from recruiting talented writers and photographers to reviewing hundreds of story pitches to fact-checking, legal review, editing, design and promotion.

And we told you that despite how much we were growing, we still had just one full-time editor.

That's no longer the case! We are to-the-moon excited to introduce you to Arik Ligeti, The Narwhal's Audience Engagement Editor. We scooped Arik from his digital position at the Globe and Mail where he spent years building their readership and curating newsletter content for the news hungry. And he's excited to bring his audience prowess to The Narwhal.

When we asked Arik what made him want to join our pod, he said it's partly his excitement about the publication and partly because he's stoked on an outlet dedicated to environmental journalism.

"In the midst of a climate crisis, The Narwhal has been producing incredible investigative and solutions-based work around environmental issues. We need more of this kind of coverage in Canadian media — and we need to ensure we’re exhausting all options to ensure it’s getting in front of as many people as possible," Arik said in a new Q&A. Check it out and get to know our latest deep diver.

We're certainly excited to have Arik join the pod and we are grateful to each and every one of you who chipped in to help us grow our team. We couldn't do it without you.

There are *more* hiring announcements to come so stay tuned! In the meantime, we've got a lot this week to keep you busy.

Thanks for your support,

Emma Gilchrist

P.S. When we wrote in November about our biggest traffic month, we didn't imagine we'd break that record in January. And then AGAIN in February. But we did. Every time you share a story from The Narwhal you help us grow.
