Dear PAOV,

Wet’suwet’en hereditary leadership’s struggle to achieve recognition of their rights and title, and respect for Free, Prior and Informed Consent has resonated around the world.

RAVEN is hosting a three-episode webinar with the Council of Canadians in support of the Wet’suwet’en. We will be hearing from Indigenous leaders and community organizers about the shared resistance to ‘extreme fossil fuels’ and their work for climate justice across North America. So far, more than 900 people have signed up: join the conversation!

On our first webinar, we were honoured to hear from Wet’suwet’en hereditary leader Chief Dsta'Hyl - Adam Gagnon, in conversation with Mike Sawyer of the Citizens’ Oil and Gas Council. Mike Sawyer explained the stark reality of Canada’s LNG investments and the fact that meeting current climate commitments is “virtually impossible.” He said: “The National Energy Board, now the Canadian Energy Regulator, is approving gas export permits for 40 years. They've just recently approved [ones] out to 2067. So in this time of transition and concerns about climate change, why would anyone approve a massive gas export up to 2067?”

The strategic legal approaches like those being used by Wet’suwet’en Nation against fracked gas infrastructure can become a blueprint for fighting LNG projects across the country. If you are in a position to do so, please donate to these cases here.

Our second webinar in the “We Are Un-Frackable” series is focused on bold and innovative legal actions to compel governments to take climate change seriously. Taking place Tuesday April 14 at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET, we’ll hear from lawyer Richard Overstall who is the legal counsel for Wet’suwet’en’s groundbreaking climate challenge, along with Kiran Oommen, of Our Children’s Trust, who is a plaintiff in the youth-led climate lawsuit against the US Federal Government.

Sign up for the webinar today to connect with other passionate land, air and water protectors and find out how you can support the Wet’suwet’en as they take their fight against fracked gas projects to the courts.

The achievement of Indigenous Peoples, and of citizens like you are proof: people power works. And, when we forge alliances across the country, we are un-frackable.

Thank you for standing together,

Ana Simeon and Robin Tress
