Canada Just Funded Vaccines — Let's Say Thanks

Dear Paov,
Amazing news — Canada just committed CAD $600 million in new funding to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and CAD $190 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI)! This wouldn’t have been possible without the actions of Global Citizens across Canada and around the world.
Over 100 million children run the risk of missing out on critical vaccines for illnesses like measles and polio because COVID-19 has made them impossible to safely deliver. But this is exactly why we need Gavi and the GPEI — to urgently get these kids their vaccines once we’ve overcome this pandemic.
Over the past year, Global Citizens have taken over 344,000 actions urging countries to step up, and today Canada answered. Let’s send the government throngs of ‘thank you’ tweets. If we show our support now, they’ll be more likely to take similar action in the future. Tweet Now
Gavi and the GPEI provide life-saving vaccines against preventable diseases like polio, often in some of the most difficult environments on the planet. Since its launch in 2000, Gavi has vaccinated more than 760 million children, preventing more than 13 million deaths, and the GPEI has helped reduce cases of polio by 99.9% worldwide! Canada’s commitment will help these groups save even more lives.
Let’s send our support to Prime Minister Trudeau and his International Development Minister, Karina Gould, for stepping up and providing new funding to Gavi and the GPEI.
