Dollarama

A,

You have made huge progress for workers rights at Dollarama during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to your support, Dollarama just announced that it extended its hazard pay until August -- two months longer than retailers such as Loblaws.

That’s not all. You pushed Dollarama to move from having flimsy dollar store solutions to protect cashiers and customers such as clingy plastic film, to installing actual hard plexiglass in every store a month later.

And because you took action and the pressure from our partners, the Immigrant Workers Center (IWC), Dollarama warehouse workers are now receiving an increase of 3 dollars an hour during the pandemic. The IWC were able to pressure Dollarama into providing free protective equipment to all of its workers.

All this progress happened because of pressure from SumOfUs members like you.

First, tens of thousands of you signed petitions and emailed the CEO Neil Rossy. And we know he heard from you -- many of you forwarded his angry reply to us to show that he responded.

You also embarrassed Dollarama on social media by uploading pictures of the dollar store's flimsy clingy plastic wraps.

You also made our campaign go viral -- because of you, our Dollarama video... was watched over 140,000 times.

And because of the momentum generated by you -- I was able to take your message to reporters TV news, asked a hard hitting question at Dollarama’s biggest meeting of the year, and the rally we organized with People of Colour and worker led organizations was covered by the press.

Finally, SumOfUs members like you funded a huge billboard that we brought to Dollarama’s CEO’s mansion to make sure he could not ignore your message.

We made all this happen while Dollarama's team sent us veiled legal threats and pressured CTV's legal department to pull our TV interview from CTV News website.

But the struggle was worth it in order to have made such progress for Dollarama workers.

SumOfUs exists to protect workers from corporations and to fight difficult campaigns like the ones against Dollarama. Thanks to your support, your action and your public outcry, we are winning that fight.

But we're a small team fighting against giant corporations. So, to continue our work pressuring corporations to provide better pay and working conditions for low wage workers, would you consider chipping in for a monthly donation?

Thanks for all that you do,
Luca, Angus and the team at SumOfUs
