Buy nothing, give something!

Do you want to give to something different this Giving Tuesday? ...
Dear friend,
Want to do something different for Giving Tuesday?
You likely know that today, millions of people across Canada will join in a collective act of philanthropy by donating to the causes closest to our hearts — the antidote to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday that just passed.
And what better way is there to counteract corporations lining their pockets than to donate in support of building community power to fight for people before profits?
Your Giving Tuesday donation to the Council of Canadians supports hard-hitting local and national advocacy campaigns, public education and grassroots organizing that directly challenge corporate power and hold government to account
at a time when it’s needed most.
If you’re in a position to help, please chip in what you can. Every dollar makes a difference!

Corporations like to say of the pandemic that “we’re in this together.” But they aren’t. They’re using their deep pockets and political connections to try to influence COVID-19 recovery plans. And while the rest of us are struggling, they’re reaping enormous profits — primarily off the backs of their own workers.
- Loblaws just posted revenue topping $15 billion so far in 2020, yet it refuses to reinstate a $2-per-hour COVID-19 pay bump for its workers.
- Amazon just topped $96 billion in revenue this year amid evidence of appalling working conditions.
- Private long-term care home conglomerates are posting dividends for shareholders as residents and care workers continue to get infected and die, predominantly in for-profit homes.
That’s why – together with our staff, chapters and members like you across the country – the Council of Canadians has been working throughout the pandemic to deliver a federal COVID-19 recovery plan that prioritizes the needs of people and communities, and addresses structural inequities it has exposed.
But our team needs a boost of resources to keep this work going strong, and
we rely on you. The Council of Canadians does not accept any money from government or corporations – that’s how we remain a true grassroots movement – independent, non-partisan and uncompromising!
On this day of giving, will you give to support grassroots public advocacy, education and organizing that’s holding corporations and governments accountable in this critical moment?

On a personal note, Giving Tuesday wouldn’t be complete without me giving thanks to you for all the ways you contribute to making the world a little better every day as a Council of Canadians supporter. If you can’t contribute financially today, please know how grateful all of us are for your support.
With thanks and hope,
Jamian Logue
