The NDP and Greens need to set their differences aside

I wrote this opinion piece about a Green/NDP alliance and I’d love your thoughts r1

Paov,

It seems as though another federal election is around the corner -- and to be, honest, the prospect makes me nervous.

The clock is ticking on the climate emergency, with the world’s leading scientists telling us that we need drastic action to tackle this crisis in the next decade. But, our political leaders don’t seem to be up for the challenge.

Trudeau is over a year into his second term as Prime Minister and he’s still failing to take action at the scale required. Meanwhile, the Green Party and the NDP, both parties with strong positions on climate, seem intent on competing with each other for the same seats.

Today, the National Observer published a piece I wrote about what I believe is the best possible pathway for climate action as we approach yet another federal election: a Green/NDP climate emergency alliance. Click here to read the article.

As I argue in this opinion piece, these two parties don’t agree on everything, but when we’re facing an existential threat like climate change, preserving a livable planet needs to trump partisan politics.

Our political system isn’t built to... respond to a crisis like this, so we need to think outside the box. We simply can’t afford four more years of delay and denial. The NDP and Greens working together is our best bet for delivering the kind of policies we actually need.

Once you’ve read the piece, I’d love to hear your thoughts on an NDP/Green climate emergency alliance to win political power in the next election.

Please consider taking 5 minutes to fill out this survey and let me know what you think.

As you know, the 350 Canada team is committed to ensuring that climate is a top issue in the next federal election. We’re committed to figuring out a truly winning strategy for people and the planet. But, we need your help to make sure we’re on the right track.

It would mean so much to me if you took 10 minutes today to read my opinion piece and fill out this survey.

Onwards,

Amara
