Paov,
The Metro Vancouver area, where I live, is experiencing extreme heat alerts once again along with many other parts of BC and Western Canada.
Last time this happened about a month ago, it was a disaster. Hundreds of people lost their lives from causes linked to the severe heatwave, and the crisis of out-of-control wildfires reached a new peak of destruction. It’s infuriating to think that we are facing repeated climate catastrophes this summer because of decades of fossil fuel greed and political inaction.
That’s why, tomorrow, on July 29th, with climate disasters at our doorsteps and a potential federal election around the corner, over 40 communities across the country will rise up to demand real action from our political leaders. Click here to find an action near you.
If you don’t see an event close to you, consider signing up to take the lead in your community.
Your... action could be as simple as printing out a copy of this pledge, printing out a sign from our art toolkit, and heading over to the office of your local MP with some friends to deliver the pledge and take a photo that you post on social media with the hashtag #CanadaOnFire. This is our moment to make sure that right before an upcoming election, every single Member of Parliament feels the heat of the climate emergency.
Every single action matters. Click here to sign up to take the lead and host a small action in your community.
At a moment like this, politicians need to do more than extend vague platitudes like “stay safe” or “stay hydrated.” Climate catastrophes are claiming lives, destroying homes, and displacing hundreds. We refuse to accept a reality where these disasters and their impacts get worse and worse. What we need in this moment is true political courage. Real climate action means:
Tomorrow, join dozens of communities from coast to coast to bring these demands to the doorsteps of cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament across the country. r38
