Whewwww ... I’m catching my breath this weekend after a whirlwind six months at The Narwhal. When I sit back and reflect on all we’ve been able to accomplish this year, I find myself thanking my lucky stars for you: our most dedicated readers.

When my co-founder Carol Linnitt and I launched The Narwhal in 2018, we were just two young women with a dream. We hoped (and prayed) that if we published impactful independent journalism about Canada’s natural world, readers would support us. Many, many people told us we were nuts.

But then the wildest thing happened: hundreds upon hundreds of readers were willing to make our journalism possible by giving whatever they could each month. We smashed membership target after target, thanks to readers like you, and were able to expand to Ontario this fall.

Here’s the thing: we’ve been so darn busy, we haven’t even had time in the last six months to ask you to become a member of The Narwhal. And, as a result, we’re falling behind on our membership goals. Can you help?

For our budget to add up, we need to reach 3,700 members by Oct. 31 — and that means adding 194 new members in the next seven days.

What do you say? Will you sign up to give whatever you can afford to make our independent journalism available to thousands of others? Bonus: all our members get charitable tax receipts.

We refuse to run advertising on our site or to put up a paywall. But this model only works if our readers pay what they can to make our journalism possible. If just one out of every 272 people who receives this email becomes a member, we’ll reach our goal.
