Dear Friend,
We announced earlier this month that we are going back to court to continue our fight against long-term solitary confinement.
We are resolute in our commitment to ending this unjust and inhumane practice because we know that solitary confinement has devastating impacts on people in prison and their loved ones.
DONATEThroughout our fight, many survivors of solitary confinement bravely stepped forward to describe the cruel reality of this practice to the courts. They talked about the immense suffering they experienced – from BobbyLee Worm, who spent three and a half years in solitary, to Andre Blair, who spent 363 days imprisoned in a small, dirty cell. The survivors’ testimony gave many hope that this unjust practice would one day end.
But it hasn’t.
People in prison... continue to be placed in solitary confinement. During lockdowns and restrictive movement routines, wardens lock down entire institutions or set highly restrictive schedules that isolate people in their cells for days, weeks, or months at a time.
That is why I am writing to you today. Please make a donation to support our upcoming lawsuit. Join us in fighting for the rights of people in prison.
DONATEYour donation helps us stand up for some of the most marginalized people in prison. The use of solitary confinement disproportionately impacts Indigenous, Black, and racialized people, and people with mental health issues. Prolonged solitary confinement violates rights and has devastating consequences on physical and mental well-being.
People in prison, their family members, and their communities have been calling for change. They've conducted advocacy campaigns, organized protests, and brought much-needed attention to this issue.
Your donation will help us fight for what is right and just. Prolonged, indefinite lockdowns and restrictive movement routines must stop now. We’re calling on the federal government to end all forms of prolonged solitary confinement.
Thank you for being part of the tide of change.
Sincerely,
Jessica Magonet (She/her/hers)
