Buy nothing. Give something. r1 ... This Giving Tuesday, be a force for change. Dear Friend,

Do you know what feels good after this past weekend’s shopping frenzy? Giving Tuesday.

You likely know that today, millions of people across Canada will join in a collective act of philanthropy by donating to the causes closest to their hearts — a response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday that just passed.

And what better way to counteract corporations lining their pockets than to donate in support of building people power?

Your Giving Tuesday donation to the Council of Canadians helps us in the fight to put people before profits. It supports hard-hitting local and national advocacy campaigns, public education, and grassroots organizing that directly challenge corporate power and hold governments to account at a time when it’s needed most.

If you’re in a position to help, please chip in what you can. Every dollar makes a difference! Make your Giving Tuesday donation Your support helps us make sure that our governments work for us, not corporate CEOs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly shown the enormous power that corporations hold:
  • While workers and communities struggled with the economic shocks of the pandemic, corporate executives across the country watched their pay climb. Dozens of companies even tweaked their rules so their executives could get larger payouts.
  • Canada’s most powerful oil lobby used the pandemic as an opportunity to form a secretive committee with the federal government, to discuss reducing regulations and creating new opportunities. It got most of what it wanted.
  • Thanks to lobbying by Big Pharma during the pandemic, Canada has refused to take action on the world stage to address vaccine apartheid. Here at home, their lobbying has stalled long-promised changes to drug prices.
The lesson is clear: we have to fight for the future we want. We can’t let corporate boardrooms dictate it for us.

But our team needs a boost of resources to keep this work going strong, and we rely on you. The Council of Canadians does not accept any money from governments or corporations. That’s how we remain a true grassroots movement – independent, non-partisan, and uncompromising!

Will you give to support grassroots public advocacy, education, and organizing to hold corporations and governments accountable in this critical moment? Make your Giving Tuesday donation On a personal note, Giving Tuesday wouldn’t be complete without me giving thanks to you for all the ways you contribute to making the world a little better everyday as a Council of Canadians supporter. If you can’t contribute financially today, please know how grateful we are for all your support.

With thanks and hope,

Ravi Joshi
Co-Executive Director, Council of Canadians
