Confessions of a first-time donor to the Council of Canadians

This September, I made my first ever donation to the Council of Canadians, and I want to tell you why you should donate too.
Maybe it is because of COVID but I seem to spend more time listening, reading, and watching the news these days. COVID aside, it strikes me that the evidence is clear that we are at a turning point with the environment and the social fabric of our country. Water is becoming a commodity. Fires and flooding have leveled our towns in British Columbia. The economy is recovering but not in favour of those who need help the most or have waited the longest. Everything I believe in is at risk.
I can’t solve these problems alone, so I decided to add my voice to the Council of Canadians. My membership and donation will be pooled with others to create a much larger voice with a better chance of being heard. To be sure, I may not agree word for word with everything you would wish from the Council of Canadians, but I also believe that we have a much, much better chance of success together. The stakes are just too high.
Which brings me to my confession: I actually work at the Council of Canadians on a short-term contract that ends in early January. Despite my short time here, I can honestly tell you that I have never met a more dedicated, passionate group of people. Some names you may know from emails, others you will likely never know. But they are all committed to the Council of Canadians and its mission. They are dedicated stewards of your financial support and your voice. I know because I have seen them in action and, more importantly, I think I am a pretty good judge of people.
There is a lot of work to be done next year and the Council of Canadians can make the difference that is needed. But only with your support.
