“Building a stronger democracy”: A cross-country webinar r1 ... Building a Stronger Democracy

Dear friend,

Like you, we’ve spent the last several weeks grappling with the events unfolding in Ottawa. And we share with many of you a sense of exhaustion and fatigue after now almost two years of living under a pandemic – as well as legitimate concerns with the government’s handling of this public health crisis.

But we’ve also been inspired by efforts across the country to mobilize and build community solidarity in place of anger and frustration.

To bring us together to reflect on and make sense of the moment we’re in, the Council of Canadians invites you to a public panel discussion and webinar on Tuesday, February 22nd.

We will be sending a confirmed list of speakers in the coming days but ask for now that you save the date and register for the event.

Event: “Building a stronger democracy”: A cross-country webinar
Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2022
Time: 7pm EST, 8pm AST, 5pm MST, 4pm PST
Where: On Zoom

RSVP NOW!

The webinar will feature several speakers, as well as a moderated question and answer period, that address the following themes:

  • How do we make sure the government’s pandemic response puts people and communities first, not corporate interests?
  • What are the current threats to our public services, including health care, and their workers?
  • How have residents of downtown Ottawa been impacted? What have they done to organize and assert their own dignity and safety, and what can we do to support them?
  • What concrete steps need to be taken to ensure our democracy is stronger in the face of division, polarization, and hate?
As the Council of Canadians’ Chairperson, John Cartwright, wrote in a recent piece, we need more than ever to come together under the banner of “caring, social solidarity, and creating a future where everyone feels they belong.”

We hope you’ll join us. With hope and resolve,

Ravi Joshi
