The World Trade Organization is meeting this weekend to finally talk about vaccine justice. The Canadian Government, backed by an enormous push from the powerful pharmaceutical lobby, is supporting industry-friendly intellectual property rules that have allowed these companies to ensure vaccines and other life-saving COVID-19 tools won't be meaningfully produced outside of wealthier countries.
These rules could be waived at the stroke of a pen, saving millions of lives, and Canada won't step up.
But you can. Take action nowEarlier this week, we released a blistering poll showing that this approach is out-of-step with over 67% of Canadians— who want our government to follow the lead of over 100 other countries calling for the waiving of patents on vaccines, treatments and other COVID-19 tools.
And this morning we released an open letter, signed by prominent Canadian and International advocates like Stephen Lewis, Joseph Stiglitz, Naomi Klein, Dr. Joanne Liu, and other important voices— urging Justin Trudeau to listen to Canadians and the rest of the world, and not Big Pharma.
