Adani's on a coal mine expansion rampage, with 17 new and expanded coal mines in the Asia-Pacific region. It will spell certain climate catastrophe.
Tell banks, investors, asset managers and pension fund managers to stop financing and supporting Adani.
A,
Fossil fuel companies and the banks that finance them “have humanity by the throat”– secretary general of the UN, António Guterres
It is a message that no single person can ignore if we are to have a chance of keeping global warming below the critical 1.5 degrees.
We’re running out of time. The experts say what we do... now will determine the very future of humanity and our planet.
But there is reason to hope. Cutting off the money pipeline to coal, oil and gas and diverting finance to renewable energies will stop the worst of the climate catastrophe.
So, let’s focus on the worst of the worst companies and the biggest banks and investors that are financing them. Number one on the hit list is a company called Adani.
Any day now Adani is expected to announce the date of its big annual meeting, attended by the likes of Blackrock CEO- Larry Fink, Vanguard CEO- Mortimer J. Buckley, Pimco CEO- Emmanuel Roman and the biggest investors and banks in the world.
The Adani Group has a horrific track record of violence, exploitation, corruption, land-grabbing, the list goes on. In spite of this, Adani's mines have been delayed and coal kept in the ground because of the courage and resistance of frontline communities like from the Wangan and Jagalingou Traditional Owners in Australia, to the Indigenous Adivasi communities in India.
Adani's human rights abuses and the protests against them are happening in places far from where the deals are being made by CEOs and businessmen from Wall Street, to the City of London. Those CEOs will be tuned in to Adani's AGM, so let's use this opportunity to make sure they know what they're really funding A.
Thanks for all that you do,
Nish and the team at SumOfUs
