Paov, thank you for taking action as part of the Tax Big Oil campaign. On Tuesday we dropped off 35,000+ petition signatures at the PM's office. r1

Paov,

On Tuesday we joined Leadnow and Greenpeace in Ottawa to deliver the names of 35,000 people calling on Trudeau to enact an oil and gas Windfall Profits Tax and fund a Just Transition. We were joined outside the Prime Minister’s office by MP Mike Morrice, MP Laurel Collins, and MP Elizabeth May who are committed to continuing the fight for a windfall profits tax in the halls of power.

Paov, can you take two minutes to watch and share this video recapping the action? Here are the links:

Local activist Rolly Montpellier spoke at the action. I thought he summed up the Tax Big Oil campaign well:

"The damage caused by the fossil fuel industry and... the impacts of climate change are accelerating, and that’s why we need transformative solutions and to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable. It’s why we must make Big Oil pay."

It looks like you haven't signed the petition yet, but there's still time. Take a minute to add your name now.

We'll keep pushing for a Windfall Profits Tax in the new year and signing the petition is the best way to get updated when we launch the next phase of the campaign.

We have been campaigning hard for a windfall profits tax over the past few months and we don’t plan to let up. Trudeau and Guilbeault will do their best to play climate leaders at COP15, the UN biodiversity conference taking place in Montreal starting this week, but we know their track record. Canada can’t take real climate action while our leaders continue to protect the fossil fuel industry over the safety of people and the planet. That’s why we will keep building people-powered pressure until we win a bold, transformative Just Transition Act that accelerates Canada’s energy transition and holds the fossil fuel industry accountable for creating climate chaos.

While our team takes a moment to rest and reflect, you will see a few emails from us in December spotlighting climate justice organizers from around the globe, and ways you can continue to support our movement so we are well-resourced to take on the fossil fuel giants and their political allies.

In 2023, we plan to come out swinging. This moment calls for big ideas and bold action. Together, we can build a movement powerful enough to win ambitious Just Transition legislation that delivers 100% clean energy and lifts up people and justice.

In solidarity,
Katie
