Yasmín Rodríguez (@entre_aletas ) started this petition to Galician Ministry of Environment, and it now has 11,931 signatures
Manoliño is a well-known and much-loved dolphin from the coast of Galicia, who has been harpooned by an alleged spearfisherman. The harpoon has been in the side of the cetacean for almost two weeks now and although it seems not to have touched any organs, time is running out for him and every minute counts. If we don’t act quickly, his wound could become infected and he could die. Act now by signing and sharing this petition.
Save the dolphin Manoliño!
Several operations have been attempted in which it has been impossible to remove the harpoon and did not even manage to get out of the port. In countries such as California, they are up to date with this type of rescue and use appropriate materials and provide the health care he needs until the operation has been completed. In Spain, this type of rescue is not so common, but there are also enough personnel and organizations capable of saving his life, but it is the Galician Ministry of the Environment that has to request it and it is not doing so. The organization CEMMA has done everything possible to help Manoliño but they do not have enough resources.
There are other local and international organizations that are following the case and have offered their help but they need to be formally requested by the Conselleria de Galicia because it is outside their area of responsibility.
We need this to reach all the institutions involved as soon as possible so that they can urgently get together and set up an operation to save Manoliño. We know that he is in pain, although his vital organs are not damaged at the moment, and with each passing day, his situation could get worse.
He is at home and has been unjustly harpooned by a human and the least we can do is save him. I am sure that CEMMA is doing everything possible but I am also sure that other institutions who can help could advise them on how to carry out the next operation and urgently, if necessary, transfer staff from other places who are familiar with this.
Please, sign the petition and share this urgent appeal with all your contacts. One more signature is one less minute of waiting for him. They would not hesitate to help you if you found yourself at sea in danger, as they have done on other occasions.
It’s up to you, my friend, hang in there, they are looking for you again and we won’t stop until save you.
** The picture is Manoliño fully healthy and in freedom, we wish to see him like this again.
