We know we need to win big, transformative changes to truly tackle the climate crisis and achieve an energy transition that leaves no one behind.
To do that, it's crucial to build a shared vision for what a just transition looks like and how we can get there from the oil-soaked Canada we currently live in. That’s why I'm so excited to share a new book some of our favourite climate thinkers and doers are launching this month!
The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada is a joint vision from six climate thinkers and organizers to lay out a pathway for what a just transition off oil and gas looks like and how we build a caring economy that provides social support for all, redistributes wealth, and ensures stolen land is rightfully reclaimed under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples.

The collective behind this book is also hosting a virtual reading and conversation on January 31st. Here are all the details:

- Emily Eaton, Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at University of Regina
- David Gray-Donald – Media worker, fundraiser, and climate justice advocate. Co-founder of Resource Movement and The Grind.
- Joël Laforest – Writer, researcher, and organizer. Co-founder of the Alberta Advantage podcast.
- Crystal Lameman – Researcher; policy analyst; and passionate Indigenous rights, Treaty, and environment defence. Government relations advisor and treaty coordinator at ᐊᒥᐢᑯᓵᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐃᐧ ᐯᔭᑰᐢᑳᐣ ᐅᐢᑌᓯᒫᐅᐧᔭᓯᐁᐧᐃᐧᐣ ᓂᑯᑖᐧᓯᐠ Beaver Lake Cree Nation.
- Bronwen Tucker – Campaigner, researcher, and community organizer. Co-founder of Climate Justice Edmonton and Global Public Finance co-lead at Oil Change International.

We can no longer allow our politicians to drag their feet on critical climate action. While politicians like Alberta's Environment Minister Sonya Savage complain about even using the term "Transition," the truth is a strong majority of us want bolder action from our governments to accelerate the shift to 100% clean energy in a way that leaves no one behind.1 The End of This World offers a much-needed vision for how we move from our current economy built on colonization and extraction to a healthier world that centres Indigenous knowledges and climate justice.
