Tell your MP to reject Big Oils demands

Members of Parliament are back in Ottawa today. Tell them to deliver a bold Just Transition Act. r1

Paov,

Members of Parliament are back in Ottawa today after more than a month off and the fate of Trudeau’s long promised Just Transition Act hangs in the balance.

Big Oil and their allies are pulling out all the stops to kill this crucial legislation. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is demanding that Trudeau drop the term “Just Transition” altogether, calling on the Prime Minister to expand fracked gas exports and conventional oil and gas jobs as part of the plan.1

Meanwhile, tar sands executives are using the fight as cover to lobby for billions in public dollars for carbon capture and other false climate solutions that protect their bottom line.2

It’s up to all of us to make sure our elected officials ignore Big Oil’s lies and listen to the people. That’s why last week thousands of people across the country used our new email tool to flood MPs’ inboxes with calls for bold and ambitious Just Transition legislation.

Paov, let’s make sure MPs get another wave of messages on their first day back in Parliament. Can you take two minutes to send an email now?

We know the vast majority of Canadians want our federal government to go further and faster in the race to tackle the climate crisis. But as usual Big Oil is trying to pose as part of the solution while doing everything they can behind the scenes to block real climate action. We can’t let them keep muddying the waters.

That’s why our message to MPs lifts up three clear demands.

  1. Align with climate science. We need to move at the pace the climate emergency demands. At a minimum, that means a moratorium on fossil fuel expansion, including freezing projects currently under construction – like the Trans Mountain pipeline.
  2. Include a Green Jobs Guarantee. There’s no shortage of work to be done as Canada races to tackle the climate crisis. Our just transition plan should make sure that anyone who wants to be part of this national project can get a good, green, unionized job.
  3. Put people first, not corporate profits. We can’t have a just energy transition without investing directly in the most affected workers and communities. Big Oil doesn’t need another dollar more from the public purse for false solutions and greenwashing.

Help us fight back against the fossil fuel billionaires who are trying to sabotage Just Transition legislation before it even sees the light of day. Tell your MP to deliver the bold action we need. Just enter your location and our tool will take care of the rest.
