PAOV — When Victoria gave birth to her daughter, her landlord increased her rent by 20%. Her lease stated that there would be an increase for “additional occupants” but Victoria and her partner didn’t see this as reasonably applying to a newborn. Victoria is now fighting back, saying the rent increase is “an obvious, unethical abuse” of the lease and the Residential Tenancy Act. She’s urging British Columbia’s provincial government to amend the RTA to better protect tenants who give birth or adopt a child. You can help by signing the petition now.
