PAOV,
The 2021 heat dome was at the top of the news cycle while it lasted, reporting tragic stories of suffering and death.
What wasn’t well reported were stories of
frontline workers forced to either do their jobs through sweltering heat, or get fired.
68 per cent of workers surveyed reported that, despite showing up in the midst of roasting temperatures,
they weren’t even given extra water breaks.
B.C.’s labour laws weren’t written with climate disasters in... mind.
There are no laws protecting people who don’t feel safe working through extreme weather events, like a heat dome. And many health and safety measures in the workplace are dated, poorly enforced and ineffective.
If you care about climate justice, I invite you to join Worker Solidarity Network and allies at the
Climate-Labour Justice rally this weekend to
stand with workers fighting for better protections.
When:
Saturday, June 17, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: The B.C. Legislature building, Victoria

The climate crisis is already happening.
Vulnerable and precarious workers deserve stronger protections — without them, the services we all rely on will collapse.
Fighting for climate justice means no one is left behind, and
no one is disposable.
Help send a message to the B.C. government that you support workers rising against rising temperatures.
I hope you can make it!
Alexandra
