We, the undersigned, urge immediate action to... save the Pacific Northwest killer whales from the brink of extinction. The population of these magnificent creatures has declined by over 20% in the last two decades, and as of 2021, only 74 individuals remain. The situation is critical, and we cannot afford to wait any longer.

The decline of the Pacific Northwest killer whales is due to a combination of factors, including pollution, climate change, and overfishing of their prey, Chinook salmon. The loss of their primary food source has resulted in malnourishment, low reproductive success, and higher mortality rates among the whales. Furthermore, the whales’ habitat is threatened by oil spills, increased vessel traffic, and noise pollution.

We call on policymakers to take immediate action to protect the Pacific Northwest killer whales. This should include measures to reduce pollution, regulate fishing practices, protect their habitat, and increase Chinook salmon populations. It is vital to recognize that the loss of these creatures would have significant ecological and cultural implications. They are not just a vital part of the marine ecosystem, but they also hold significant cultural and spiritual value to Indigenous communities that have lived in the region for thousands of years.

We cannot afford to let the Pacific Northwest killer whales disappear from our oceans. It is our responsibility to act now and ensure their survival for generations to come.

FIRST STEP OF ACTION: Urging politicians to shut down all open water fish farms that are infecting the food source of the orcas.
