Time for action on bee-harming pesticides
Urge the White House task force to enact real and rapid protections for honey bees.
Dear Paov,
We hear President Obama's pollinator task force will soon be finalizing its plan to "promote the health of honey bees and other pollinators." Help us make sure it makes a real difference.
So far, the task force hasn't been very clear about how it will address one of the primary threats to bees and other pollinators: pesticide exposure.
Speak up for bees» Pesticides are a very real threat to bee health that urgently needs to be addressed. As the White House task force wraps up its work, they need to hear this message loud and clear.
Numerous independent studies clearly show a link between pesticides and bee declines, with neonicotinoids (or “neonics”) leading the pack of bee-toxic chemicals. Not only can neonics kill bees outright, they can impair bee brain function and suppress immunity to common pathogens. They’re also the most widely used insecticides in the world.
Based on the growing body of evidence, scientists around the globe are calling for immediate action to restrict the use of neonics. This task force is key in getting U.S. decsionmakers to act on neonics.
The science is clear. Time to act» U.S. policymakers have been doggedly slow to take action to protect pollinators. Tell President Obama the task force must step up and put meaningful and rapid protections from bee-harming pesticides in place.
Thank you for keeping this important issue front and center.
