Sweeping trade agreement deserves debate

TPP

No fast track!

Urge Congress to open up the TPP to public scrutiny and debate.

Take Action

Dear Paov,

Here they go again. Congress is once again moving to “fast track” approval of the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. Fast track means no public hearings, no floor debate, no amendments — no civic engagement whatsoever.

The stakes are high. If passed, the TPP would be the largest trade deal in history, covering 792 million people and about 40% of the world’s economy. Rules affecting food and farming — among many other sectors — have been negotiated behind closed doors.

Stop the fast track » We need to understand what we’re getting into. Join us in calling on Congress to stop the fast track and open up the TPP for public scrutiny and debate.

So far, we’ve managed to block previous attempts to rush this agreement through. And it’s a very good thing. Leaked documents suggest the pact would increase the power of global corporations and undermine hard-won protections for the environment, worker safety and public health.

In a recent op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, former Secretary of Labor Richard Reich warns that the TPP could start a “global race to the bottom.” When it comes to health-harming pesticides and new GE crops that ramp up herbicide use, that’s a race we just can’t afford.

Take a look, Congress » Let’s remind our legislators that they’re accountable to us, not the large corporations serving as "advisors" at the TPP negotiating table. Tell Congress to stop the fast track, today.

Thank you!
