HELP US STOP THE UNNECESSARY CAPTURE, AUCTIONING AND SLAUGHTERING OF OUR WILD HORSES OF ALBERTA. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!! These Horses are CURRENTLY being culled.
Albertans should question the true agenda of our ESRD, in going ahead with a cull knowing full well that majority of these captured horses will be slaughtered. The ESRD announced earlier this month it would roundup 60 Wild Horse from the Ghost River Equine Zone. Spokesman Duncan MacDonnell said 21 have been captured to date and more is to be expected. With that being said, we have not received a number to prove the overpopulation in this area, the response given to the media was “We don’t know”. This is in spite of the ESRD working with Wild Horses Society of Alberta on population control program using PZP contraceptive preventing pregnancies. It's contradicting and confusing for us as a general public for the ESRD to run a contraceptive program meanwhile go ahead with another cull.
Why is it individuals can profit from capturing these beautiful horses that aren't ours for the taking. The ESRD should be held accountable and charged with animal cruelty, if any of the Wild Horses sustain injuries due to being confined at the auction in tiny stalls awaiting their faith. It's hypocritical for Alberta Government to promote its cowboy culture while they heartlessly issue capture permits for their demise.
The horses should not become part of the choice, of living or dying at the hand of our ESRD Government. We must educate those who hold the lives of animals in their hands, those who have the power of making life or death decisions. It’s hard to imagine that we won't be seeing some of these exquisite horses anymore, as many of them will undoubtedly end up in slaughterhouses. In Western Canada wild horses are currently unprotected and routinely "culled”, these wild horses are being sent to slaughter.
