Colombia

Teachers Protest for Better Conditions


Thousands of teachers from the Colombian teachers' union (and CoDev partner) FECODE, intensified their protests last week. The issues they are highlighting are: salary increases, access to adequate health care and the elimination of exams used to evaluate teachers. Learn more. *** Halting the Use of Pesticides on Cocaine Crops


A recommendation has been made by the Colombian Health Ministry to suspend the use of cancer-causing herbacides to eradicate cocaine crops. Read more here.

Guatemala

Anti-Corruption Protests

Tens of thousands of protesters inn Guatemala City are demanding the resignation of the country's top two officials amid allegations of a major tax scandal involving numerous public servants.Read about it here.
Mexico
Children Forced into Labour


More than 124,000 child labourers often work in slave-like conditions in Mexico. A study by the National Council for Discrimination Prevention explains how 2 out of 10 Mexican children are involved in domestic work. They are between the ages of five and 13. Read more here.
