We asked you to join us in taking action for the Mashco-Piro. Tens of thousands of you responded, and now we can confirm that Peru has listened. An emergency team has been sent to the area where the tribe is making contact, to try to prevent them being wiped out by diseases to which they have no immunity.

The Yanomami are celebrating being reunited with blood samples that were taken by researchers and stored in the USA – a violation of tribal customs and completely taboo. Yanomami spokesman Davi Kopenawa said, “Nobody knew that they were going to use our blood to do research. Everybody was very sad knowing that the blood of our relatives was still being kept.” Shamans held a special ceremony to bury the samples. More »
