German Chancellor Angela Merkel pressed the G7 as a... bloc to agree to specific emission reduction targets prior to the United Nations climate summit in Paris this December. Merkel is seeking to get the G7 to commit to keep the global temperature rise to within 2 degrees Celsius of pre-industrial levels, in other words to agree to planetary survival.
While the New York Times editorial board says, "The Paris [climate summit] may well be the world’s last, best chance to get a grip on a problem that, absent urgent action over the next decade, could spin out of control", most are already bracing for another massive failure by the political elite at what is being disparagingly described as the "Conference of Polluters".
CBC
reports, "The N.W.T. chapter of the Council of Canadians wants ConocoPhillips to beef up its plan to monitor inactive wells in the Sahtu."
