Urgent Action: Stop the world’s fastest deforesation

Paraguay’s uncontacted Ayoreo Indians are fleeing from bulldozers that are destroying their forest to make way for cattle farms. Their homeland now has the fastest rate of deforestation in the world.

The Ayoreo face catastrophe unless their land is protected. One of the companies has been caught red-handed, but no charges have been brought. We need you now, to help us stop the companies involved.

Over the last twenty years our partnership with the Ayoreo has succeeded in protecting over 150,000 hectares of their... land.

Dear Attorney General Javier Diaz Verón,

Cattle ranching company Itapoti S.A. has illegally invaded land belonging to Ayoreo Indians in the Chaco.

In April, a team of state attorneys verified that Itapoti S.A. had carried out illegal works on the Ayoreo’s land. But no action has been taken against the company, and the case, under the jurisdiction of Attorney Armin Echeguren, has not been resolved.

Ayoreo have the legal right to their land under both international and Paraguay’s constitutional law. They were granted title to the land in 1997 and 2014, but their rights have been repeatedly violated by Itapoti S.A.

I urge you to resolve the case and bring the company to justice.
