Watch our video! As a federal election looms, it’s time for the OpenMedia community to draw a line in the sand: We have to make Canadian politicians choose between the old, reckless approach to privacy – and the new approach that we are setting out today.
This is why we’ve just released a powerful new video outlining a clear plan to address Canada’s stark privacy deficit, based on input from over 125,000 Canadians!
Canadian political parties are pitching their plans to the country right now. As politicians see how much Canadians care about privacy, they’ll have no choice but to adopt our policies, protect our privacy, and kill C-51 in time for the election.
We know from experience that this works.
Just yesterday, we had a historic victory when our crowdsourced policy for the future of Internet access in this country became government policy.1 And we can do this again for privacy if you watch and share this video now.
Our video encourages action on the three key priorities2 that you have identified for how Parliament can strengthen Canada’s privacy safeguards:
From Bill C-513 to warrantless spying4, privacy breaches5 to a multi-billion dollar spy palace6, there seems to be little interest from the government in protecting the privacy of Canadians.
And we’re already seeing the human consequences of the government’s approach: lives being turned upside down, family connections broken, businesses ruined, and people’s ability to travel undermined.
But now we have a clear path forward: Canada’s Privacy Plan.7
If each of you who receives this email shares our video with your friends and family, we can make this go viral and send the government a message it can’t ignore: Canadians are demanding our privacy back.
Thanks for sharing!
Laura, on behalf of your OpenMedia team
P.S. Our crowdsourced privacy video is just the beginning. We need to keep up this fight for as long as it takes to restore our privacy rights. And to do that, we’re going to need your support. Can you chip in a few dollars today so we can reach as many people as possible?
