A,
In the past week, more than 160,000 of us have signed the petition calling on Starbucks to adopt a time-bound responsible palm oil policy.
Let's keep the momentum going and ramp up the pressure on Starbucks!
The Island of Sumatra is home to the last of Indonesia’s tigers, holding on for survival in the remaining patches of forests. Tragically, the palm oil sector is clearing most of the tiger habitat remaining on its Sumatran plantations -- meaning that these beautiful tigers could end up like their extinct Javan and Balinese relatives.
Sumatran tigers are the smallest surviving tiger subspecies. They are protected by law in Indonesia, mostly from poaching — but unfortunately not from deforestation.
If we push snack food companies like Starbucks to buy responsible palm oil, we can slow down deforestation and save these tigers.
July 29, 2015, is International Tiger Day. Let’s make sure that Starbucks hears our voices and changes its ways by following the steps below:
Step 1: Go to Starbucks' Facebook wall.
Step 2: Copy and paste the following message or write your own words:
Conflict palm oil and deforestation are driving the endangered Sumatran tiger to extinction. While your peers in the industry have committed to zero deforestation and using responsible palm oil, you are ignoring the problem.
It's time to adopt a time-bound, responsible palm oil policy and to cut ties with bad actors that clear rainforests, peatlands and abuse the rights of communities and workers in the palm oil sector. http://action.sumofus.org/a/starbucks-palm-oil/

In 2013, facing public pressure, Starbucks announced that it would be sourcing 100% responsible palm oil by 2015. Ever since it made that promise, Starbucks has failed to report mandatory data on its palm oil sourcing and it is ignoring this growing emergency, and the concerns of its consumers. 2015 has arrived and it looks like Starbucks will miss its deadline.
We have a real chance to make change in the palm oil sector by convincing Starbucks to commit to responsible palm oil. In the past three months, SumOfUs has pushed McDonald's and Yum! Brands (owners of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell) to adopt responsible palm oil policies and go deforestation-free, so we know it's possible.
Thanks for standing for responsible and deforestation-free palm oil,
Kaytee, Fatah, and the team at SumOfUs.org
