Harper just called the election early -- to have as much time as possible to buy votes. Let’s make sure this isn’t another major coup for big money and corporate power.
Demand a government that speaks for us, not corporate interests.
A,
Here it comes. Harper called the election today -- a whole month early -- because he thinks money is all it takes to hold on to power.
Weighing in on elections isn’t the obvious fit for us -- we’re a member-driven organization focused on corporate power. But we can’t sit this one on the sidelines.
Make no mistake, this election is about corporate power. That’s why we need to weigh in. Every candidate from every party needs to show they’re in this for the public good, not for their buddies in boardrooms.
A few months ago, we asked for your input on how we should engage in this federal election. We had an overwhelming response -- 90% of you wanted us to campaign specifically to elect a government that keeps corporate interests in check.
And it’s clear who the villain is. From gutting environmental laws, to privatization of public assets and a push for secret trade deals that entrench corporate power, Harper has been a cheerleader for big business and the ultra-rich while forgetting about the rest of us.
Call on Harper and all the federal party leaders to protect our democracy from corporate influence.
Conservative MPs have fanned out across the country on a spending spree in the last few days, using taxpayer money to buy as many votes as possible.
But what they haven’t accounted for is us -- movements and communities across Canada fighting back against corporate greed.
Over 600,000 SumOfUs members in Canada are taking notice. This election, our team is going to be diving deep and uncovering information about candidates and their connections to big business lobbyists, shining a massive spotlight on slimy corporate-funded politicians. There are dozens of ridings across the country where our community has enough members to literally decide the vote, so we’ll also be in touch with information about party leaders and candidates in key local ridings.
Your signature will make it clear to the party leaders that this does matter. Let’s put Harper and the other party leaders on watch -- this election, we are going to elect a government that speaks for us, not corporate interests.
Let's do this.
Thank you from the SumOfUs Canadian Team,
Angus, Emma, Rosa and Liz
