We’re taking second-class citizenship to court!
Dear PAOV,
This summer, part of Bill C-24 went into effect, officially creating a two-tier citizenship system. As a result of this new law, dual citizens and people who have immigrated to Canada can have their citizenship taken away while other Canadians cannot.
Even if it never happens to you, creating two kinds of Canadians divides our communities and weakens Canadian citizenship for all of us.
Protecting a valuable legacy
That’s why the BC Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers are taking the federal government to court.
We've been fighting to stop these changes to citizenship for more than a year. Even though more than 110,000 people stood with us against Bill C-24, Canada's government still forced these changes through. We must not stand by while the foundations of Canadian citizenship are attacked.
Today we filed a lawsuit to challenge second-class citizenship in the courts.
30 days to fund this fight
We are crowdfunding to cover the costs of this expensive lawsuit, and we’ve got 30 days to make it happen.
We need to raise $25,000 to start this case. Help us to restore equal citizenship for all Canadians. Please donate now.
Equal citizenship is at the core of what it means to be Canadian. Nobody should be a second-class Canadian, no matter where their family comes from.
