http://divestinvest.org/Day 3 of Fossil Free Week is
dawning warm and promising. Yesterday we talked to hundreds of
students who came through the camp - several hundreds of which signed
Divest McGill's petition for the McGill board of governors to commit
to divesting the university endowment holdings from fossil
fuels.
Members of Divest McGill and students acting in
solidarity are camping out in front of the administration building
this week demanding that the Committee to Advise on Matters of Social
Responsibility (CAMSR) recommend an immediate freeze on all new fossil
fuel investments and a commitment to divesting the university
endowments from fossil fuels.
Today is Divest McGill's flagship Fossil Free Week
event. Students will be coming to the camp to write notes to
the university administration with the prompt "I want McGill to divest
because..."
You can support Divest McGill's Fossil Free Week by
writing your own note with the same prompt and tweeting a picture at

two accounts for up to date information about events during the week
and live-tweeting of each rally, workshop and action.

p.s. This week a
groundbreaking new divestment report was released.
The report,
which is being released on the eve of a major UN summit in New York by
a coalition of global leaders representing finance, health,
philanthropic, municipal, education, entertainment, climate justice
and the United
Nations and other sectors, finds that more than $2.6 trillion has now been
pledged to be divested from the fossil fuel industry.
Here is a great quote by Leonardo DiCaprio,
who spoke at the announcement: "Climate change is severely impacting
the health of our planet and all of its inhabitants, and we must
transition to a clean energy economy that does not rely on fossil
fuels, the main driver of this global problem," said actor and
environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio, who announced his commitment
today. “After looking into the growing movement to divest from fossil
fuels and invest in climate solutions, I was convinced to make the
pledge on behalf of myself and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. Now
is the time to divest and invest to let our world leaders know that
we, as individuals and institutions, are taking action to address
climate change, and we expect them to do their part this December in
Paris at the U.N. climate talks."
