PAOV – There's a new petition taking off on Change.org, and we think you might be interested in signing it.
Cette pétition prend de l'ampleur sur Change.org, souhaitez-vous la signer? Elle demande qu'on respecte un code d'éthique dans l'élevage et l'abattage d'animaux au Canada.
Right now, millions of birds are crammed inside filthy, windowless sheds forced to live for weeks in their own waste. Chickens and turkeys are bred to grow so fast they often become crippled under their own weight. And untrained and poorly supervised factory farm workers routinely kick, punch, and throw these fragile animals with no regard for their welfare.
Multiple undercover investigations by Mercy For Animals have exposed horrific cruelty in the Canadian poultry industry, including at Hybrid Turkeys where workers were caught on video kicking and throwing turkeys, crushing their spines, and violently beating them with shovels and metal rods. Turkeys with open, pus-filled wounds, rotting eyes, and festering infections were left to suffer and die.
The good news is we have a chance to help alleviate much of the suffering factory-farmed chickens and turkeys endure. But we need your help.
The National Farm Animal Care Council is updating the Canadian codes of practice for the care and handling of chickens and turkeys. For the next couple of weeks only it is allowing the public time to review the new codes to provide feedback.
With the help of veterinarians and animal welfare experts, MFA has prepared a response that will help ensure the new codes of practice are as strong as possible. We will be submitting an official response during the public consultation period, but it will carry a lot more weight if it has the backing of thousands of compassionate Canadian citizens like you.
This is the perfect opportunity for Canadians who care about the welfare of farmed animals to make sure their voices are heard on this important issue.
Every single Canadian’s signature is critical.
