Today we're launching an extraordinary campaign proposed to us by a coalition of human rights and workers' organizations in Israel and China.
Those groups have come together to demand that the Israeli and Chinese governments not go ahead with a deal to import some 20,000 Chinese construction workers into Israel.

Those workers would come via private recruitment agencies, and would be subject to massive loans and abusive employment practices, with little or no protection under the law. Workers can be expected to pay up to $30,000 each for the privilege of getting one of these jobs.
The campaign sponsors are comparing this to the notorious
"kafala" system widely used in some parts of the Arab world.
(According to the
Wikipedia,
kafala "requires all unskilled laborers to have an in-country sponsor, usually their employer, who is responsible for their visa and legal status. This practice has been criticised by human rights organizations for creating easy opportunities for the exploitation of workers, as many employers take away passports and abuse their workers with little chance of legal repercussions.")
Please take a moment to send off your message to the Israeli and Chinese governments opposing this deal and showing your support to those groups in both countries campaigning against it:
