Windsor-Essex chapter writes Michigan to oppose Marathon oil refinery plan
The Council of Canadians Windsor-Essex chapter has written the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality in opposition to a proposal that would allow the Marathon oil refinery in Detroit to increase its emissions of at least eight air pollutants, including nitrogen, carbon monoxide, sulfuric acid mist and sulfur dioxide.
A controversial Canadian mine appears to have now been definitively stopped, but an investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) challenge is already underway.
China appears interested in free trade agreement if Energy East pipeline is approved
On Jan. 6, the Globe and Mail reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would be leading a high-level trade mission to China to seek a free trade agreement with that country. This morning, the newspaper reports that China is interested but that they want something along with that deal - a tar sands pipeline to tidewater.
Federal fisheries minister Hunter Tootoo visited Prince Edward Island today to consult on what marine areas should be protected.
