A,
This month leaders gathered in New Zealand and signed the corporate-backed TPP.
It’s disappointing. Leaders signed away our democratic freedoms -- the right to make our own laws, and protect our environment, health, and internet freedoms.
But it’s not over. The TPP still needs to be passed as law in countries that signed the deal for it to take effect. And from now on, we’ll be giving it all we’ve got to stop that from happening.
We’ve already sent a strong message to leaders that we don’t want this corporate-backed trade deal. Thanks to SumOfUs members like you and our partners all across the world, we've shown that the movement against the TPP is strong and growing.
Here’s what we did together.
In New Zealand...
During the signing week, wherever leaders turned, they were hit square in the face with unmissable anti-TPP messages. We had big message boards at the airport when leaders arrived. And just when trade ministers thought that it was over, we projected huge images on the building outside the casino, where the deal was signed. This mammoth effort was funded by our members, along with Action Station and LeadNow members.

In the US...
Over 1 million Americans signed a petition to call on their government to stand against the TPP. We teamed up with 350.org, Sierra Club, Avaaz, CREDO and many other groups to make sure Congress was in no doubt: America does not want this dangerous trade deal.
In Australia...
Over 300,000 Australians came together to sign the petition to tell their leaders not to ratify the TPP. We teamed up with GetUp and more than fifty community organisations that represent over two million Australians to stand strong against the deal. We got plenty of attention, too: we made it into one of Australia's biggest newspapers the next day.
And finally in Canada...
Canada’s new government still hasn’t decided where it stands on the TPP -- so we elevated the voices of over 25,000 SumOfUs members, who told the trade minister to ditch the deal.
Next, we’ll be working to make it easy for SumOfUs members to take part in the new government’s consultation on the TPP, so it sees just how strongly Canadians oppose this toxic trade deal.
There are plenty of powerful people who want us to believe the fight to stop the TPP Is over. Big corporations, wealthy politicians, and the lawyers who'll profit from the endless lawsuits it will generate all want us to go home and forget about it. But the truth is that the fight is far from over. Almost every TPP country now has a powerful campaign challenging the plans to back the deal. The politicians who must ratify it are getting increasingly nervous. There's never been a more important time for a people-powered campaign to stop it in its tracks.
If we’re going to win, we need you to stand against the TPP at every step of the way.
Thanks for all that you do,
Paul, Kat, Ledys, Hannah, and the team at SumOfUs
