Give bees a chance!

r1 ... PAN PAN Together, we’re working for a thriving food system.

Dear Paov,

As we head into spring, it’s time for honey bees to work their magic. These and other pollinators turn blossoms into almonds, apples, strawberries and more. They bring one in three bites of food to our plates, including many of the tastiest.

This is why PAN is working so hard to put bee-protective policies in place and create a resilient, thriving food system.

According to the UN, 100 crops feed most of the world’s population — and 70 of these rely on bees for pollination. Without them, our diets would be very limited and farmers would be in deep trouble. In the U.S. alone, bees’ pollination services are valued at about $19 billion.

In short, we all rely on bees. Every. Single. Day.

Yet year after year, alarming numbers of these and other pollinators keep dying off. Why? Most scientists agree there are several factors at play — like decreased habitat and forage, diseases and pests — but it’s now crystal clear that pesticide exposure is a key part of the problem. And this is something decisionmakers can address right now.

In the past few years, we’ve driven policy wins that protect bees from pesticides at local, state and federal levels. Now it’s time to build on our wins, and protect these precious pollinators once and for all.
